Antony to join Real Betis for €25 million

Real Betis and Manchester United have reached an agreement on a €25m transfer deal for Brazilian winger Antony. The package includes a 50% sell-on clause, which would entitle United to half of any future transfer profit should Betis sell Antony.

Antony signed for Manchester United in August 2023 for a guaranteed €95m, with potential add-ons worth €5m. However, he struggled to establish himself under Erik ten Hag and was loaned out to Betis, where he rediscovered his form.

During his loan spell at Betis in the second half of the 2024-25 season, Antony impressed, scoring nine goals and providing five assists in 26 appearances. He played a role in helping the team reach the Conference League final, where they ultimately lost 4-1 to Chelsea.

Betis had been keen to sign Antony permanently, and the two clubs had been negotiating the transfer fee. United had been holding out for a permanent sale, and last week, it seemed both clubs had failed to reach an agreement due to disagreements over the player’s salary reduction.

Antony had been earning a significant amount at Manchester United, and the move to Betis would result in a substantial pay cut. The player had been seeking a solution to address the €4m shortfall he would face with the wage reduction. United will not make any further payments to Antony as part of the agreement.

Antony’s move to Betis would mark a new chapter in his career, and he would look to build on the success he experienced during his loan spell. The player has spoken publicly about his struggles at United, citing a loss of passion for the game and difficulties outside of football.
